Sean Monahan, ARAFMI President, proudly presented this award to Barry by saying that Barry has been an active volunteer for the School Education Programme for over three years and during this time, has worked consistently and reliably, many times at short notice. This year in particular, our volunteers have been in short supply and Barry has made himself available to travel considerably long distances for the program, for example, travelling from Fremantle to Clarkson in the Northern Suburbs. Barry has made an outstanding contribution in the general community in raising awareness of mental health issues and decreasing the associated stigma.

Barry responded by thanking everyone very much for the award and said that 'it's wonderful to have an award, but the problem is that I have been rewarded already thanks to the break down of the stigma on mental health issued in schools and the community in general. The programme is wonderful and hopefully I will continue as a presented for a long while yet."
