Mental Illness has a major effect on all family members, including young people. ARAFMI Youth Services seeks to assist young people through support and information in their emotional, psychological, social or behavioural development.

The Youth services programme provides age appropriate services and resource material to improve the coping ability of 8-18 year olds who have a family member with a mental illness.

Has someone you know and love been diagnosed as having Schizophrenia, Bipolar Mood disorder, Depression or another mental illness?

Very often when people have a mental illness, family members and friends find it difficult to understand. They may not know how to deal with what is happening or they may feel that there is no one to turn to for help.

Knowing about mental illness can help you understand why the person you care about acts and feels the way he / she does. Understanding what is going on makes life more predictable and less confusing for you.

Remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In Australia, one in four families will have a family member with a mental illness.
